Alexei Jawlensky 1864-1941 European Artist Jawlensky was born in Torzhok, north-west of Moscow. He studied at St Petersburg and Munich, and visited France, where he was deeply impressed by the work of Cezanne. After settling in Munich, he exhibited with Kandinsky and Marc, who founded the Blue Rider Group in 1911.
