| Symons was born in Chicago, Illinois, where he studied at the Art Institute. Further study followed in London, Paris, and Munich. Upon his return to the states, Symons moved to California and built a studio but also maintained a studio in New York as well. His style was primarily a landscape painter whose works blend realism with a broad, vigorous, Impressionistic stroke, is best known for his portraits of New England, Cornwall (England), and the American West. He painted entirely outdoors, and his desert and Grand Canyon paintings are among his most acclaimed works. |
