| Baugin was born in Pithiviers (Loiret), France into a wealthy family. Baugin was received into the Society of Saint-Germain-des-Pres as a master painter. He started by painting religious works and earned the nickname "Le Petit Guide" (Little Guido) because he was strongly influenced by Guido Reni. From Paris Baugin's moved to Rome, and took advantage of this time to learn everything he could from Rome in terms of art, and his work shows the combined influences of Correggio, Parmigianino and Raphael. His most notable paintings were a small group of strikingly austere still-lifes, signed simply "Baugin". |
