Oil paintings

Among the broad category involved in painting, Oil painting is the most prominent. Oil painting is different from all kinds of painting and requires high caliber to work on it. An important trait of an oil painter is seeing things in a different way from others do. A good oil painter tries to represent the subject in paint and considers the paint as real. The paintings are done systematically with certain procedures. The materials used in oil painting include ground pigments like linseed, suspended in oil. Usually oil painting takes much time to dry to achieve the desired effect.

Painting techniques
Oil paint is made up of elements like pigment; the powder, oil; the medium and drier to dry the painting. The oil paints can be mixed as thick as clay or as thin as gossamer. Painting using oil is so simple that you may try even in your kitchen using the saffron or food color and oil. Using more pigment stiffens the paint and makes it dry faster. If excess oil is needed, absorbent paper or blotting paper may be used to absorb it. In oil painting, the thin layer should be painted first followed by thick layer since it prevents cracks. Similarly light colors are painted first and then dark colors are painted. Oil painting can be done in a perfect manner using paints, basecoats, brushes & knifes, brush-cleaning system, canvases and frames.

Painting includes different categories like landscapes, floral, wildlife and portraits. Beautiful landscapes can be painted by using paints and different brushes. Its better to use new brush for every mix. There are different brushes like round kolinsky brushes, priplavleniye brushes and average size squirrel brushes. The basic colors include Flake White, Yellow Ochre Light, Red Ochre, Burnt Umber, Raw Umber Ivory, Madder Lake Deep, Chinese Vermilion, Prussian blue and Lamp Black.

The outline is traced on a paper and then it should be transferred to the canvas. After each layer, the canvas should be wiped with a soft cloth. Imprimatura is the first layer in Flemish painting technique and podmalyovok is the process of creating intermediate layers. Each layer should be dried before proceeding to the next layer. Umber Under layer is the next layer, which can be used like a watercolor. The dead under layer can be used to make corrections without radical changes and the color layer for darkening or lightening the area. Finishing layer gains the final color and shape and becomes more beautiful and transparent as time passes.

Painting includes exterior and interior paintings. Water-based acrylic latex is used for exterior paintings and oil-based paints are used for interior paintings. Latex paints are soluble in water and dries quicker whereas oil-based paints require mineral spirits for thinning and dries slowly.
